Environmental Pollution and Its Effects

Environmental pollution is the negative effects that occur as a result of the disruption of the natural balance in the environment. This pollution occurs by contamination of environmental elements such as air, water, soil and sound.

Air Pollution

Air pollution occurs as a result of the concentration of harmful gases and particles in the atmosphere. Activities such as factories, vehicles, energy production and agriculture cause air pollution. This causes problems such as respiratory diseases, acid rain and climate change.

Water Pollution

Water pollution is the damage to water resources. Industrial wastes, pesticides, domestic wastes and petroleum products cause water pollution. This situation causes water resources to become unusable, aquatic creatures to be harmed and potable water resources to decrease.

Soil Pollution

Soil pollution occurs as a result of pesticides, industrial wastes, mining activities and garbage mixing into the soil. This causes a decrease in soil fertility and damage to plants and organisms living in the soil.

Sound Pollution

Noise pollution occurs as a result of the intensification of loud activities. Traffic, industrial facilities, construction works and aircraft cause sound pollution. This leads to health problems such as hearing loss, insomnia and stress.

Effects of Environmental Pollution

Environmental pollution negatively affects natural life and human health. While air pollution causes respiratory diseases, water pollution threatens drinking water resources. While soil pollution reduces the productivity of agricultural areas, sound pollution reduces people's quality of life. Additionally, environmental pollution reduces biodiversity and unbalances ecosystems.
