He was born in 1943 in Izmir. He completed his primary and secondary education in İzmir. In 1963, he entered Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. In 1967, he entered Atatürk University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, as an assistant. He received the title of "doctor" in 1971 with his thesis titled "Dialects of Kars - Phonology", which he prepared based on the texts he compiled from Kars. He was a visiting researcher at the University of Washington in the city. In 1979, he became an associate professor with his thesis titled "Kutadgu Bilig'de Verb". In 1983, he was appointed as the head of the Turkish Language and Literature Department at Gazi University, Gazi Education Faculty. In 1986, he was appointed to Gazi University Faculty of Arts and Sciences as a professor and founded the Turkish Language and Literature Department of this faculty.
In 1992, Gazi University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures. was appointed as the head of this department. He is married to Bilge Ercilasun, who works as a professor of New Turkish Literature at Hacettepe University; has two children. prof. Dr. Ahmet Bican Ercilasun has many works and castles on Turkish language, literature, Contemporary Turkish Polish and dialects.
