Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha ComM (born November 17, 1986), commonly known as Nani (Portuguese pronunciation: [naˈni]), is a Portuguese winger who plays for Orlando City SC in Major League Soccer a professional football player. He represents Portugal in international football and has played more than 100 times for the senior national team. Although predominantly right-footed, it has been used many times on the left wing.Nani was born in Amadora, Portugal and is of Cape Verdean descent. He started his football career playing for local side Real Massamá. At the age of nine, he began training with Sporting CP and SL Benfica on alternate days and eventually joined Sporting's youth squad after giving pre-season training.
Nani started professionally with the club in 2005 and won the Taça de Portugal with them in his second season. Nani was named SJPF Young Player of the Month in May 2007 and his performances with Sporting moved him to English club Manchester United in July 2007 for €25 million.
Nani won the Community Shield in his debut at Manchester United and added multiple trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League, in his first season at the club. He has proven himself as the first choice winger at United and has won three Premier League titles, a Football League Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and three Community Shield titles. Individually, Nani was once named to the Professional Footballers' Association of the Year (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year and was shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2011. Taça de Portugal was signed by Fenerbahçe for £4.25 million in July 2015 and signed to Valencia a year later. He rejoined Sporting CP in July 2018.
Nani is also a Portuguese international. He played under 21 before playing at senior level. He made his senior international debut in a friendly match against Denmark in September 2006, scoring his first international goal in a 2-2 loss to Copenhagen. Nani has represented his country in four major tournaments, including three European Championships: he won Euro 2016 by participating in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 European Championships, reaching the Euro 2012 semi-finals; He participated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Portugal.
